Yes, I like U2 and Nine Inch Nails. Most people hear that and something short-circuits in their head. The effect is even more pronounced when I admit to liking both Sting
and Skinny Puppy, but that is neither here nor there. Just this past Sunday night, Nine Inch Nails released their new album, Ghosts I-IV, on their website. Imagine taking the best instrumental pieces NIN has created and stretching that mentality out to 36 tracks - almost two hours - of sonic atmosphere. Best of all, NIN released this album without the studios and under the Creative Commons license, kind of like what Radiohead did a few months ago with In Rainbows. What this means is when you buy it from the website, all the money is going to the artist and not some MAFIAA middleman. It also means that you don't really have to pay for the album if you choose not to, and other sites are legally free to distribute the entire work to anyone and everyone. That's what the Pirate Bay is doing right now in their own special way.
