There must have been something in the air in April, 2001. U2's concerts at that time were energetic and fresh and vibrant, and the tapers were capturing some of the best audience recordings of the tour. I would have to say this month of the Elevation tour is probably my favorite for both of those reasons. This recording out of Portland is a prime example. Now, admittedly, Bono's voice sounds a bit too much like it's coming out of the PA in this one, but the instruments come through very loud and heavy with bass (I like it in the "Rock" preset in iTunes, but it works well flat, too). The crowd is present with a few people in particular near the taper that thankfully never really get too obnoxious. Actually, they give you a pretty good feeling that the audience is getting whipped up good by the performance. "Until The End Of The World" does a pretty good job of that all on it's own, and "New Year's Day" manages to keep things pumped up (and there's some funny talk at the end of the track about a missing brown bag). After that, the mood is a pretty bumpy ride, with thumping rock songs following lighter songs then back to rock. The second disc, though, is pretty much high energy until the last three tracks wrap it all up with mellow material including snippets of "Amazing Grace" and "I Remember You".

Good to have you up and running again. I agree about those JT remasters. Would it be possible to have those two shows in apple lossless at some stage. It would be great to have them in portable format. Looking forward to this show too.

I'll vote for the apple lossless version of the JT shows you mentioned as well. I've downloaded both as DVD audio, and I'm having playback issues with both (a lot of "shhhhhhhh," and low volume with regards to the music).

BTW, thanks for the Portland show!

I do have the full source audio extracted and downsampled for each show. I am reviewing them now for quality. I *might* share them with you.
I *might* not.

OK, OK, I won't tease. I do have the audio for both shows extracted, downsampled, and converted to Apple Lossless. However, I will not be sharing them. Butterking (JEMS), has stated that an "official" release of the JT San Fran audio DVDs at CD-firendly 16/44.1 will be made in the future, and if I share any version of this show here in Apple Lossless it will be that.
But yeah, these are way cool to listen to even on CD or on my iPod.
Neener neener neener!

Aww man. Any ideas when he's gonna release them? I've tried converting them myself but I've had no joy. Could you even tell me how it's done so I can have these on my iPod for personal use only? I want them soo bad

The short answer on how to convert DVD audio:
1) The show must already be on DVD, so burn it to disc if you have not already done so.
2) Use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode with demux selected so that you can capture the audio stream. I recommend setting it to capture by chapter so that you don't have to separate the tracks yourself later.
3) Use an audio program to downsample the WAV files to 16/44.1 so that it is CD-friendly. Audacity can do this, as can Soundforge, Goldwave, Adobe Soundbooth, and several other programs.
4) Load into iTunes and convert to your preferred format.
I found very detailed instructions how to do all this, so if you need more help, I recommend googling "extract dvd audio" or "convert dvd audio" and you'll find plenty of crap programs to do it, or a few pages with instructions.
I may change my mind about seeding the audio.

I don't know. You guys aren't really trying all that hard to convince me. No petitions. No abject begging. Certainly not enough grovelling. I might just have to wait until JEMS releases their offical CD version. Oh well. I have these two lovely concerts on my iPod to keep me warm at night when you guys aren't properly feeding my ego.
