So here we go again, firing up U2unes after yet another server failure. I don't want this to be a regular occurrence, but it sure seems to happen a lot. Anyway, I received a request to share a bootleg from this date in Milan, Italy, from the Zoo TV tour. It's a very good concert, and I have two versions of it. The first is a well-known silver CD. The second is straight from the DAT master recording transferred to FLAC by the taper himself. Listening to both, it became apparent that the silver CD is likely from an earlier rip of the very same DAT. The sound is almost identical. It's clear but a bit distant. The audience is present, but distant also. I'd say the taper was in a pretty good location to capture the overall concert experience. The crowd sometimes overpowers Bono's singing, but since none of the audience seem near to the taper at all it manages to work well for this recording. "Bad" has a slightly different sound to it throughout, but it transitions into a rare performance of "So Cruel". Bad, unfortunately, also has a brief drop at 5:20ish followed by some static at the end of the track. Other than that, this is a flawless recording, and I think I would go so far as to say a must-have for Zoo TV fans.
