I woke up this morning and said to myself: "Self, share something good today." And myself said: "Can I have breakfast first?" And so, after some witty banter back and forth as I tried to determine if this was going to be a great day, or if I was just going to be pissed off at myself for being a smart-ass, I finally strolled down to the Library (being where the U2unes server and the bootleg archive reside) and parked my butt, donut in hand, in front of the keyboard. That is what is known as a run-on sentence, and my English professor from my college days would be very cross with me right about now. My Creative Writing professor, on the other hand, would have loved it.

Once the cheap pastries were properly stowed away in my belly, I worked my way through the following thought process: Which tour? War would be good, but UF would be better. I'm in a UF mood. Early UF or late? Early, myself replied. Australian or European? To be honest, the down-under leg of the tour doesn't inspire me this morning, so European. Ah, here we go... a highly rated, good-sounding silver CD bootleg. From Rotterdam, no less. U2 always give good shows to the Dutch.

So, here you are, Dear Reader, with the opportunity to download U2's performance in Rotterdam on the 30th of October, 1984. The audience is in layers... some of them are close but not obnoxious during songs, while the rest of them are in the distance and add some character to the recording. Music and lyrics are clear. You won't get the impression of being on stage, but it does sound a lot like very good seats. "Wire" has some improv to the ending that you won't find in other shows, and Bono gets a little creative during "Electric Co" as well. "Bad" is short but sweet. "Party Girl" makes an appearance, which is always a treat, and for some reason I enjoyed this rendition of "40" though to be honest I can't really think of why.

Thanks for all the kind words in response to the ultrasound pictures. I promise I won't abuse my position as owner of this site to force you to look at an endless stream of pictures of my kid(s).

Jason, you are right about sharing this bootleg. It is was one of my favourites of the UF area.
Will download it to compare it with the version i have.

Hi Jason,

I wonder if you have the bootleg 'Welcome to the Unforgettable Fire' in your collection. It concerns the same concert as you are sharing now.
Do you think the latter is an upgrade?

Hi Ron. I do have "Welcome To The Unforgettable Fire" and to be honest I believe they are identical. Same source. The copy that I have, though, doesn't have any lineage or source info, so I chose "When We Were Young" instead because I know more about it.
