U2unes is back in action today with a new bootleg by request (Hi Chris!). This one is an early Zoo TV era concert in Dallas. The music is clear, though the acoustics at the venue leave it sounding like you are standing in a large room with a bunch of people talking around you listening to great big public address speakers (which, of course, the taper was) instead of "at a U2 concert." That can be forgiven because of the clarity. There is a very obnoxious woman by the taper who can be heard screaming her moronic head off during the first several tracks, and I almost decided not to share this one because of that twit. I don't know if she moved, if the taper moved, or if the people around her finally tied her up and gagged her with sewer rat (fitting punishment) but she does shut up and the show is good. Bono can be heard frequently kissing up to the Texas crowd, and he does plenty of well-played improv in several songs. The Edge does some singing, which is a pleasant surprise and it really comes out well as a result. Distortion-heavy songs like "Desire" do not work well with these acoustics, but the more normal songs like "Bad" work well, particularly when the crowd starts out mellow and attentive, which happens more often during the second half of the concert.

Oh My God, I got fired because I travelled to Texas to see this. The old cow who fired me got fired for stealing from the company several years later. Heh! This was at Reunion Arena, which was never known for its great acoustics. And Dallas concertgoers can try your patience sometimes as it seems being seen is more important than seeing and hearing a band. However, this was an awesome show, and the audience was SO LOUD and the sound sytem was even louder. My ears rang for almost a week.
